Sweet Sweet Sweet Dream.

Character
Character: Silver the Hedgehog
Series: Sonic the Hedgehog (video games)
Age: 14
History:
Located here, here, and here.

The Sonic the Hedgehog series takes place in an alternate version of our Earth. There are cities and countries that can be accounted as counterpart places — for example, there are locations heavily based off of places such as New York, San Fransisco, the Mayan City Tikal, and Italy. Though the environment is akin to our planet in many ways, with animals, humans, and plants just like modern Earth, there are a number of monsters and deities that impact the universe like Chaos, a god-like creature that evolved from the lifeforms called chao. There are other deities such as Dark Gaia, Light Gaia, and Solaris. Along with deities, there are sapient, anthromorphic animals who can only be assumed to have evolved over time with the abilities to talk, walk upright, and subsist within society on par with humans.

Though their Earth is normally perceived as a tranquil world, there is one human who poses as a major threat by the name of Doctor Ivo Robotnik, more commonly known under the alias/affectionate nickname as Doctor Eggman. A scientist (re:villain) with an IQ of 300, Eggman constantly devises plots and plans to acquire, albeit forcefully, control over the whole world, and sometimes even the entire solar system. Eggman tends to put forth his plans with creations of robots, polluted fortresses and establishments, and other vile mechanisms to build his dream Empire. Most of his endeavors also involve the usage of at least one deity that will later turn on him and run rampant, and the seven Chaos Emeralds, which are mystical gems with immense power. Chaos Emeralds are composed of both negative and positive energy and are usually scattered about the world. The Chaos Emeralds can be negated by the Master Emerald, a larger gem protected by Knuckles the Echidna (and previously before him the Echidna of his tribe) that is used to keep Angel Island (Floating Island) suspended in the sky. Chaos Emeralds are enriched by power of the heart, and can be enhanced or neurtalised by the Master Emerald. Most only go after the Chaos Emeralds and do not bother with the Master Emerald, though both have been stolen and used by Eggman and others. Eggman has also joined forces with his future descendant Eggman NEGA on two occasions. He has also assisted the evil entity known as Mephiles the Dark — one half of a sun-god named Solaris.

Silver spends most of his time travelling between the future and past of his Earth under the guidance of Mephiles the Dark as he tries to change the destiny laid out before him. Two hundred years into the future, Earth has become dismal and grim. Silver's city, Soleanna New City, is in incinerated ruins thanks to the monstrous other half of Solaris — Iblis — after the Day of Disaster, in which the princess of Soleanna, Elise III died thanks to the Iblis Trigger. The game in itself has called this burnt out shell of a land Crisis City, as it reflects its name. Flaming whirlwinds continue to consume what's left of the obliterated remains, and Iblis minions (spawned from the creature itself) parade around left and right. Skyscrapers and streets tower above a swell of never-ending malign flames. The city stays this way throughout the story until the end of both Silver's runthrough and part of the Last Story. Located somewhere far off from Soleanna New City/Crisis City still lies the remains of the ancient Royal Palace (the original Soleanna Kingdom), located in Kingdom Valley. It is unknown whether Silver has traveled to this area in his time, as he remarks that he is surprised that the research facility (Aquatic Base) existed. Blaze sacrifices herself to end the eternal flames and bring sunlight and peace during Silver's path, believing it to be the only way, sealing herself off into another dimension. The Last Story and Generations, however, concludes that the future can be (and is) restored, as the apocalyptic timeline is erased.

Canon Point: Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 → Silver’s Story - Post Aquatic Base (just as he goes through the portal to arrive back in the “present”)

Personality:
Silver hails from two hundred plus years in the future of Sonic the Hedgehog’s Earth. His world, though, is a slightly alternate future where the world was in endless turmoil from a creature named Iblis that was born from the Flames of Disaster.

“Say, Blaze… To kill someone to save the world… Is it right…?” -Silver

Silver is a young, impulsive hedgehog who has had to grow up way too fast due to the state of his planet. He has what’s considered a strong attitude towards justice and peace, and can be quite stubborn about it, and believes in doing the right thing. He fights for his life and everyone else’s every day, struggling to save the world and committed to making the future he lives in a better place. His world was sent to ruins before he was born, so he’s lived a life of destruction and anguish. Due to being at such odds all the time, Silver tends to just go with the flow of things if it’s towards obtaining and upholding justice. He pursues enemies and evil with a persistent tenacity, so much to the point that he’s willing to kill another being if it means he’ll save the world. This same determination causes him to side and believe in Mephiles right off the bat — an alliance that shows he can be tricked by others.

It is this same attitude that causes him to not want to involve others in his missions and causes his dislike for others to get in his way in general. This mindset makes Silver come off as extremely rude, bossy, ill-tempered, and impatient. However though, despite all this, Silver is willing to leap head-first into danger to accomplish his goal and will defend those who cannot defend themselves. He is perceptive when not being clouded by his own immaturity and naïveté, a trait described multiple times by his best friend and partner, Blaze. Underneath his cocky surface, Silver really just is a kid, something he’s been called by Rouge. He’s very insecure, but just wants to do the right thing because it ‘all depends on him’. Luckily, though, if someone can get through to him, he’s willing to look for the other’s truth. It’s because he’s still young that he acts so high and mighty. His own self-confidence and viewpoints on life rely heavily on those he meets and trusts. Silver respects those who are up-front with him, and are willing to get through his stubbornness to help him see the truth. Not many put up with his impulsive and insistent personality, but when they do get through to him, they leave a lasting impression on him (for example, Shadow the Hedgehog does this on more than one occasion in more than one game).

And when he’s not worried about the destruction of the world, he’s really sweet and awkward. He’s not great with communicating with others, unless it’s about business. He’s willing to give up his own happiness for the sake of others still, but his mood is much brighter about it. He’ll laugh and smile, and is willing to help others and is just nice. Silver still admires trust and loyal friendship, but he himself is down-to-the-point honest and playfully cocky rather than brash. He likes adventure and having fun too. He’s also shy around girls and sometimes fumbles over his words around them (ie how he acts towards Amy Rose when they first meet).

Silver will always care deeply about others and be kind-hearted with well-intentions in mind when fighting off injustice. He will always go towards a goal of ‘good’ and ‘right’ and is willing to protect, defend, and sacrifice himself if it comes down to it. He also has a soft spot for A-life type animals, protecting them to the same extent as he does other beings.

Skills and Abilities:
Silver has several abilities that are unique and beneficial to his timeline. His most prominent skill is his sixth sense-like, futuristic ability named Psychokinesis (more commonly known as Telekinesis), which he also refers to as his ‘ESP ability’. Silver is an expert in the art, able to use it indistinctly. He is able to use his psychokinetic powers to lift, throw, and crush multiple diverse types of objects from the sheer force of his mind alone. He can also manipulate his psychic abilities to move himself. With them, he is able to levitate in the air and even fly. As a note, there was a discrepancy in how his flying was displayed in Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 (cutscenes were arranged differently than actual gameplay), but in Sonic Generations he is shown to be able to fly for much greater lengths. He does not seem to do it often, unless there is an urgency to do so. Other uses of his powers include projecting energy blasts that either paralyse, stun, shock, confuse, or deal general damage to others. Too much use of his powers though drain him to the point of exhaustion. Also, unlike Sonic and Shadow, he’s not capable of running at the speed of sound, though he is still quite faster than most of the others who aren’t speed types. His speed lies more in his levitation skills, wherein he is able to match Sonic's speed and race him when doing so. However, like Sonic and Shadow, he does possess a super-form from the power of the seven chaos emeralds. His unique ability to him when in his super-form is a 'Shield of Light', a psychokinetic barriers of sorts.

In Sonic Generations, he's shown to be able to go Katamari, or more appropriately titled, Meteor Smash. This ablility is a last resort one that Silver used against Sonic towards the end of their Rival Battle by gathering up a large pile of cars, lampposts, and debris as one final attack. It seems to drain him completely of his powers and is not something he normally uses, unless it is in a need to go all-out.

Silver is also able to to use the ability Chaos Control, which he learned after Shadow the Hedgehog performed it on him during battle. Chaos Control grants the user the power to warp time and space around them. In some cases, this allows teleportation, slowing down time, and/or stopping time completely. However, when two beings utilise Chaos Control together, they can go back and forth through time. He is shown to use Chaos Control in Sonic Generations with much ease, incorporating it into his fighting style when he levitates, to throw a Psychic Knife at Sonic.

Due to his personality, Silver has quite a handful of weaknesses. He’s naïve, immature, rude, and trusts too easily for one. He’s very one-tracked when it comes to carrying out a mission and his determination to carry the fate of the world on his shoulders causes him to become extremely difficult to deal with, to the point of outright hostility from him towards those who oppose him. When something starts to look like a turn for the worse, Silver becomes doubtful, prone to second guessing himself, feeling hopeless, frustrated, and weak. All in all, Silver’s single-minded thoughts when set on goals cause him to run wild without thinking, which tends to lead him down odd confrontations.

Silver cannot swim, due to not being near any bodies of water until he travelled to the past. He doesn't show his insecurities with it though, leaning on his psychokinesis to aid him near water.

First Person Sample:
[ Why hello there, everyone. Have one frustrated white hedgehog fumbling with the rune because 1) what is technology and 2) how is a rock considered something you can communicate with? Silver has no skill in such objects as he was never around computers and the like until the past couple of days he's spent travelling back and forth in time, so he just hopes that he does not break it. He flashes by very briefly, grumbling, but then it goes black and to audio. ]

How about... this here.

[ And then its video! Except he's not looking at it directly, however, it is a clear view of one (still) frustrated hedgehog, as he is unaware of the fact that it is recording. ]

I guess if I hit this? [ blip! to text. ]

i think i got it.

i'm looking for someone. a couple of someones.

their names are blaze, shadow, and mephiles.
[ Not Sonic. He'd like to find him on his own, with all the confusion of him not being the Iblis Trigger. Plus it doesn't help that he was brought to an unknown place by a dragon and now being watched by some floating creature — which he had to admit was pretty cute and was surprised it could talk — that had been chatting away about something or rather. ]

my name is silver.

how did i arrive here? what is this place? it doesn't look like the past.

Third Person Sample:
As Shadow went on ahead through the gateway created from them both performing Chaos Control, Silver could not help but hesitate. He glances at the sleeping seven year old of royalty that he gently had placed against the tree; glances at the scepter that held one-half of all of his problems, and it's no wonder he's concerned. It's all so much, what he became witness to ten years in the past of his past. The incident that causes the destruction of his present, and the burdensome contract a young princess had to bear: to never cry again, because he was not strong enough to extinguish Iblis himself. And the monster had no other choice but to be sealed within Elise's soul. The young hedgehog felt disgusted with himself that he failed. That all he could do was paralyse the beast with his abilities and nothing more. He felt useless in that moment — as the Duke of Soleanna secured the eternal flames into his own daughter with the last bit of his energy — before entrusting her to him, as he fell to what Silver could only presume was death.

He thinks back how when Shadow went on ahead through the gateway the first time when he had just identified it as Chaos Control. How he had not hesitated to follow. He did not understand then what the older hedgehog's connection to Mephiles was, even if he claimed that he knew that the mysterious hedgehog's goal was the destruction of the world throughout time continuously, but he has wanted to know if the black and red hedgehog was someone he should be trusting. So, with those thoughts in mind, Silver had followed Shadow through the portal.

They had appeared in an elongated hallway, much to the surprise of Silver. His golden eyes had scanned their surroundings, until they met with Shadow's blank red ones he had many questions form on the tip of his tongue.

'Who are you... Shadow the Hedgehog?'

'What is Chaos Control? Is it part of the miracle that can happen using a Chaos Emerald? He said it controls time and space, and we are in the past now....'

Silver had wanted to ask about what the other male suspected they would find, and why Mephiles looked like Shadow... why Mephiles had a Chaos Emerald. Would everything really be found here in the past?

But then Silver's thoughts had been cut short when they had heard voices in a room up ahead, and Silver had kept the questions to himself. He had supposed he could ask the questions once they had finished investigating but now as he thought about it — would they be answered and did they matter? He saw what Mephiles had been and could only put two-and-two together on why the creature had took on Shadow's form. As he contemplates that, he's brought back to the child laying before him.

Silver is riddled with frustration as he tries to keep his cool — to bite back on the emotions that threaten to seep through. He will not show them in front of Shadow. Nor in front of the unconscious child. Not even in front of himself will he show on his face the distress he is feeling. But he can feel it in his body, in his bones, how tense he is.

'To change my destiny, I must move forward.' It's a thought that crosses his mind in these moments of hesitation, but then he finally takes one step forward towards the rip so he can continue on and save his future.

Until she speaks.

Father. It's muttered as she groans, moving in her sleep, and it is the reason now for his hesitation. He kneels to her, giving her the Chaos Emerald.

"It's a good luck charm." A firm whisper, and then, somewhat regrettably, he goes through the portal.
